Pupils at Damers First School have this week braved the cold weather to plant out some onion sets in their new allotment. With the help of some volunteers from Poundbury and Casterbridge Rotary, as well as Lisa from Poundbury Gardens, who is propagating some potato seeds before they are planted in the allotment, the pupils are hoping to grow an abundance of vegetables for their Big Soup event at the end of the summer term. As well as a communal plot, where each year group can forage for their soup recipe, each pupil will also have a space to grow and tend to their very own plant.

We wish these budding growers the best of luck and look forward to seeing the plants grow and flourish.

There’s nothing quite like a cup of tea and homemade cake to banish those winter blues, so this February all three of our restaurants will be offering a free cup of loose leaf tea with any slice of carrot cake, Victoria or chocolate sponge. Once you have purchased all three, then you will be able to enjoy another free slice of cake and hot drink on us.

Pick up a loyalty card at The Apple Tree, The Engine Room or The Walled Garden and remember to ask the team to check it off each time you visit!

Queen Mother Statue outside Poundbury Gardens and The Engine Room.

The atmosphere in Poundbury was electric yesterday, as hundreds of people lined the streets around Queen Mother Square to catch a glimpse of the Royal visitors. Her Majesty The Queen, along with The Duke of Edinburgh, HRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall arrived to a fanfare before a short tour.

Poundbury Gardens and The Engine Room provided the backdrop for the grand unveiling of the much-anticipated Queen Mother statue, which now stands tall and proud outside of the garden centre and restaurant. We were also delighted to be a part of this very special occasion, hosting the contractors and their families, who have been involved in the development of Poundbury.

Louise and her team are currently hanging thousands of baubles, labelling boxfuls of ornaments and building partition walls in preparation for our much-anticipated and award-winning Christmas displays. As always, this year’s themes are being kept tightly under wraps, right up until the big reveal at each centre throughout October.

It won’t be long though until gardeners of all ages will be able wander through these magical wonderlands, which promise to feature meandering displays, twinkling lights and festive food and drink, to get everyone in the Christmas spirit.

Christmas display open evenings:

Poundbury Gardens, Dorchester – Tuesday 4 October

Brimsmore Gardens, Yeovil – Tuesday 11 October

Castle Gardens, Sherborne – Wednesday 19 October
