The wonderful thing about growing plants in containers is the flexibility that it brings, such as choosing the perfect size to fit your space and being able to change their position throughout the year. Container plants are brilliant for brightening up a dark corner, adding colour and interest to a patio or even as a centre piece to a larger display. There is a wide variety of container plants available all year round, which are easy to look after, what’s more they don’t require the need for heavy gardening equipment and all the while keep those pesky pests at bay!

With summer just around the corner, I’m on a mission to prove that everyone can have beautiful potted plants no matter the size of their garden. So each week I will be posting the progress of my own potted plants to show you just how easy it is to introduce fabulous plants into your garden.

25 has been a very special number this year for all of us at The Gardens Group. It was in 1987 that the first of our garden centres was established and 25 years on, we’re still blossoming and growing at Castle, Brimsmore and Poundbury Gardens.

Needless to say, this summer has been somewhat significant, as it has marked our 25 year anniversary at Castle Gardens as well as 20 years of the Gold Club and Brimsmore Gardens, and what a summer it has been! Aside from our own Apple Tree Farm shop winning the ‘Best Farm Shop’ Award in the Garden Centre Association Awards – we’ve hosted and displayed some fantastic art pieces for Sherborne community group Rendezvous, welcomed a historic train to The Green Shed and have delighted customers with our model train display. Despite all this, we’ve managed to find a few minutes to organise a BIG SUMMER SALE.

The sale takes place this weekend at all three of our garden centres and runs until Sunday, and I can’t think of a better date to set it on. During the weekend we’ll wave goodbye to the summer and welcome the autumn with a huge new range of spring flowering bulbs, lawn treatments and loads of tips and advice on what can be done in the garden.

It’ll be your last chance to get your hands on barbecue bargains and accessories and you can purchase garden furniture to catch the last of the summer sun so don’t miss out.
