On Friday 19 October a commemorative display of poppies will be unveiled at Castle Gardens to mark the centenary of the end of World War I and pay tribute to the men listed on the Sherborne Castle Roll of Honour. With Castle Gardens standing on what was once the kitchen garden of the Sherborne Castle Estate, it feels like a fitting place to honour the memory of the men that left Sherborne to fight, including William Meteyard, a gardener at Sherborne Castle, who sadly did not return from the war.

Organised by a member of William Meteyard’s family and the Castle Gardens team, the memorial will be displayed in the garden centre from Friday 19 October to Friday 30 November and a two-minute silence will be held on Armistice Day.
