Tickets are now on sale for the fifth annual Poyntington charity lecture, which will be held on Friday 22 November at The Gryphon Conference Centre in Sherborne from 7pm. This year’s theme is ‘The Changing Face of Garden Centres’ and as guest speaker I will be exploring the ways in which gardening has transformed over the past 25 years and the reasons why. What’s more, we will look at how our environment, wildlife community and technology will impact the way in which garden centres are run in the coming years.

Tickets are £12 each which includes canapés and a glass of wine, and all proceeds will be donated to support All Saints Church and the village hall in Poyntington. You can buy tickets in advance from Castle Gardens or by calling Allan Rodger 01963 220759 or Jill Oliver 01963 220637.

Munching Caterpillars

This week we have been supporting the Butterfly Conservation project, ‘Munching Caterpillars’. Kate Merry from the organisation brought along a variety of plant species – such as wild marjoram – which attract moths and butterflies into our gardens. Kate ran a drop in centre on Thursday and Friday between 11am and 3pm for children on their half term to come and pot up a caterpillar ‘munch box ‘or a butterfly fuel station. Everyone got stuck in and it was a great way to teach the next generation what we can do to protect our beautiful moths and butterflies.
