Archive for March, 2012

This Sunday, it will be exactly 25 years since Castle Gardens opened its doors for the first time and we will be celebrating hopefully in the sunshine! We first opened during a terrible storm and I remember people coming in for pegs and ties to stop the roofs on their greenhouses and sheds from blowing away. There were just five of us working back in 1987 so it is a real joy to think how far we have come since then as today we have a team of more than 60 and that’s an awful lot of mugs of tea from the tea trolley each day.

We’re thrilled to be celebrating such an important milestone and have already had some wonderful comments from customers wishing us happy birthday. We’ll be starting our celebrations this Sunday with two for one on breakfast and cream teas in the Walled Garden Restaurant and will continue celebrating for the following seven days finishing with a special cake cutting on Saturday 7th April from 10am.

We hope you’ll be able to join us at some point over the next few days as we couldn’t have done this without you.

We’re pleased to tell you that even though the weather has been a bit gloomy outside to say the least, this March we are feeling very positive.

On Tuesday, Castle Gardens took part in the Garden Re-Leaf launch day with a Celebrity Gardening Quiz. The Walled Garden Restaurant was packed out with teams from around the area who answered questions set by Alan Titchmarsh, Christine Walkden and Toby Buckland as well as other well-known gardening faces and best of all, we raised over £250 for the Greenfingers Charity which creates magical gardens for children’s hospices.

Plus, on the weekend we had hundreds of people turn up to support Brimsmore Gardens’ in their 20th Birthday celebrations. There was a barbeque, food tastings and even baby chicks to see. All in all, a very successful day so thank you to everyone for your support and for bringing the sunshine too!

Don’t miss…

…Brimsmore Gardens’ special 20th birthday party tomorrow from 9.00am, it’s set to be sunny which is perfect as we’re planning a barbeque. We’ve also called in the help of some local producers to do tastings and we’re stepping back in time with fluffy baby chicks for all to see – just like the old days at Brimsmore!
See you there!

Yesterday the celebrations began with cupcakes and champagne for Brimsmore Gardens’ 20th Birthday and the excitement is set to continue right up until 10th March. To mark the start of the anniversary festivities there were bubbles and cake for all customers and we welcomed Jane Norman from the Blackmore Vale who had come to take photos of the whole team. There is a timeline detailing the history of the Garden Centre which includes pictures of some very interesting 90s hairstyles – pictures of the completion of the first extension to the garden centre and of the launch of the new Farm Shop.

It has really been non-stop – today we have a photographer in taking pictures of our new service at the Apple Tree Farm Shop – Cheese Wedding Cakes! Yes you have read that correctly, wedding cakes made from drums of cheese are set to be all the rage this year. Then tomorrow we are welcoming The Mayor and Mayoress of Yeovil, Councillor Phil Chandler and Ms Linda Jones to cut the official 20th Birthday Cake and enjoy a glass of champagne with members of the team. The garden centre is open as usual and all are welcome to join in, so do join us in raising a glass to another successful 20 years!

Cheers, Adam
